GEOGRAPHY
Mathraki is located on the Ionian Sea, 3 nautical miles northwest of Corfu and is the southernmost and smallest island of the Diapontian Islands. The port of the island is Plakes. The island has 220 permanent residents who are mainly engaged in fishing. It is administratively under the Municipality of Central Corfu and Diapontia Islands. Its area is only 3.9 sq. km. and is covered by dense vegetation with meadows and olive groves.
HISTORY
The island seems to have had a human presence since the Paleolithic Era as finds have been identified in several places on the island. According to historians, the island was formerly called Malthaki. Its name comes from the word "athrakia", which means coals, since the island was burned to the ground in the past.

HOW TO GET THERE

You will reach the island by boat that starts from Agios Stefanos Corfu (northwest Corfu) and is only 6 nautical miles away with a journey time of about 30 minutes.

HOW TO GET AROUND

There are no cars, taxis or cars on the island. Its small area allows you to cross the areas of the island you want, on foot.
